Estate planning can ensure that your hard work and careful planning will benefit you during your lifetime – and your family after your death.

Kearns & Kearns offers the expertise required to protect your assets and minimize taxes. Estate planning is an ongoing process which is easily affected by change – such as the birth of a child or grandchild, the disability or death of a beneficiary, your marriage or divorce, or that of a beneficiary, the purchase of out-of-state real estate, fluctuations in estate value, and changing tax laws. Expert assistance can help you protect your life savings.

Is your estate plan current?

Use this checklist to see if your estate plan is up to date:

• Do you have a will?
• Is your will current?
• Does your will appoint a trustworthy guardian and responsible trustee for your minor children?
• Does your will name a responsible executor and an alternate executor to carry out your wishes?
• Does your will address any special needs that a spouse, child or grandchild may have?
• Does your will name contingent beneficiaries in the event that any of your beneficiaries predecease you?
• Does your will have a trust for family members who may need help managing their inheritances?
• Does your will and/or trust minimize potential estate taxes?
• Do you have a health care document that addresses end-of-life decisions?
• Do you have a durable power of attorney naming someone to manage your affairs in the event that you become disabled?

If you have answered “no” to any of these questions, discussion and planning should take place soon.
